Software Engineer II

As a File Transmissions software engineer, you will work alongside and mentor a group of talented engineers, architects and scrum masters as you pursue a broad range of initiatives within the Managed File Transfer space. By leveraging your technical skills and thirst for innovation, you will help ensure Citizens’ market leadership. As a Transmissions Subject Matter Expert for a core critical service, you will design, develop and implement solutions which address business needs; ensure system responsiveness, reliability and resiliency; maintain system compliance with policies, regulations and best practices; assist in troubleshooting, research and root cause analysis for system issues; help shape the service roadmap; participate in fostering innovation within the team; and perform data analysis to understand system health, performance and to provide information for initiatives.

Primary responsibilities include:
Designing, modifying, developing and implementing technology solutions; building modern, architecturally sound components, tools and applications to meet mission-driven strategic business goals
Participating in an environment rapidly transforming to the agile methodology, adhering to best practices and collaborating effectively with your teammates
Infusing Quality of Service characteristics, such as scalability, resiliency, manageability and maintainability, into distributed service-based framework to create or expand business or technical capabilities
Documenting development iterations; ensuring the quality of technical documentation; creating progress reports
Participating in code and design reviews with network, infrastructure and solutions engineering teams to ensure that solutions meet current enterprise standards
Providing guidance and consultation on technical issues to Support Teams
Influencing service direction and be responsible for evaluating and incorporating emerging standards and new technologies into design and development
Maintaining system compliance with bank and Federal policies
Capturing service data and perform in-depth analysis, providing files, reports, and documented results and recommendations based upon the data
Performing application installation, patching and testing for system components
Attending project meetings, providing leadership and guidance, and clearly communicating the capabilities of the service, ensuring that the correct design is reached and realistic expectations set

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:
4+ years of experience in software development, with a proven record of successfully launching commercial products
Experience with one or more Managed File Transfer systems and applications, such as Seeburger Business Integration Suite, IBM Sterling B2B Integrator, IBM Connect:Direct and GlobalScape Enhanced File Transfer
Experience with multiple file transfer protocols, such as FTPS, SFTP (SSH), HTTPS, and AS2.
A willingness and desire to learn new skills
Demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment, strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
Ability to complete assigned tasks on time, with minimal oversight, with the ability to prioritize workload
Experience working within an agile framework, such as Scrum or Kanban
Experience with Java and having an understanding of multiple other programming languages, including at least one front end framework (such as Angular/React/Vue), such as Python3, JavaScript, Ruby, Golang, C, C++, etc.
Bash (command line and scripting) and Linux experience
Ability to analyze data, identify trends and formulate proposals
Experience with collecting requirements, creating software designs and developing efficient implementations
Excellent debugging/problem solving skills including ability to investigate and remedy software bugs if necessary
Competent use of Microsoft Office applications to include Outlook, Excel, Word and Visio
Experience teaching and mentoring team members

Preferred Skills/Experience:
Understanding of the banking industry
AWS/AZURE/GCP experience, including managing sensitive assets
Experience developing processes within a workflow engine
Experience with data transformation and translation
Familiarity with full-stack development
Experience with CI/CD pipeline (CircleCI, Jenkins, or equivalent)
Familiarity with Jira
Familiarity with DevSecOps
Experience with relational databases and SQL
Cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect
Understand data structure concepts such as linked lists, dictionaries, arrays, custom object creation, etc.
Experience utilizing and developing REST APIs
Understanding of networking concepts, such as firewalls, load balancers and network address translation
Experience with test-driven development, test automation and test frameworks (e.g., JMeter, Cucumber, Selenium)
Understanding of X.509 certificates and SSH keys
Experience with PGP operations (encryption, decryption)
Practical knowledge of container solutions (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes,)
Experience with source Control Systems (e.g., GIT/Gerrit)
Experience with build automation technologies like Maven, Jenkins, etc.
Familiarity with dashboard creation tools like Tableau
Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials:
Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related discipline required

Hours per Week: 40
Work Schedule: M-F 8:30 - 5
