Sr. Software Engineer – AWS, IoT

AutoPets is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to support continued development of our connected IoT pet platform, as well as the continued development of our Flutter application platform.

Working with the Director of Software Engineering, as well as our U.S. based IoT/AWS Development Agency, the Sr. Software Engineer will be responsible for ongoing mobile app and AWS IOT development, integrations with third-party IoT products, co-management of our agency partner, system debugging and more. We are looking for a hands-on software engineer who is comfortable working in a cooperative small team atmosphere.

High-Level 2-Year Scope of Product Development

  • Focus: Continued development of our IoT pet platform and React Typescript tool suite
  • Continued development of mobile apps for connected devices
  • Data project: analyzing and better understanding how pets are using and interacting with our products
  • Machine Learning: predictive analysis of pets behaviors based on their actions

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain AWS IoT environment
  • Develop new features or bug fixes for backend solution
  • Develop new IoT integrations for connected hardware products
  • Work with design team on implementing new application designs
  • Perform unit and functional testing to ensure the quality of your work
  • Work with the support team to identify and resolve issues
  • Experiment and create proof of concept prototypes for new features
  • Assist with development of new features or bug fixes for mobile apps


  • BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent in experience
  • 3+ years of experience developing with AWS backend services
  • 3+ Experience with AWS systems: DynamoDB, IAM, IoT Core, Kinesis, Lambda, Lightsail, PostgreSQL
  • 2+ years of experience with Docker
  • 2+ years of experience with Flutter SDK
  • 2+ years of experience with GraphQL and Hasura
  • 2+ years of experience with Google Firebase
  • Languages: DART, JAVA, Javascript (Typescript), YAML
  • Experience shipping software products to market
  • Ability to work closely with design staff and to implement design direction
  • Ability to take ideas from concept to prototype
  • Ability to write clean code with an emphasis on maintainability
  • Familiarity with SOLID principles
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • The desire to learn constantly and dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies
