QA Lead Automation Engineer

Summary of duties and responsibilities:

As a QA Lead Automation Engineer, you will be involved throughout the development lifecycle with particular emphasis on the quality assurance of software development and deployment. In working with the Automation Manager provide leadership across the team. Must use creativity, technical and stellar communication to help design, test and deliver high-quality software. Creates automated scripts using code that interfaces with the product code. Must create reusable and auditable automation test in support of a project, from business requirements review, design (development), to final system testing and release readiness testing. At times there will be a small percentage of manual testing required. You will write automation scripting for functional, integration, regression, and performance testing to meet the business requirements, and the strategic mission and goals of the organization while mitigating risk. Contribute to ongoing process improvement activities, including the building of a continuous integration (CI), cloud integration environments. Manage and optimize testing assets to facilitate maintainability and address evolving (test) systems. Create automated test reporting and metrics collection. Maintain a high-quality bar in a complex and constantly evolving workspace.

Must be a self-starter, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong attention to detail. You will be expected to manage work tasks independently and will assist in the planning, organizing and coordinating of technical tasks and work assignments, collaborating closely with release management, product management, quality assurance, and professional services.

Must be a driven, passionate individual who works well with a team.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform QA management responsibilities as needed (back up to QA Manager).

· Develop and execute automation scripts using automation tools (primarily), MS Test, Ranorex and other automation tools.

· At times coordinate and lead automation regression efforts.

· Lead in designing, developing and maintaining the automation.

  • The Lead QA Automation Engineer also must support the frameworks.
  • The Lead QA Automation Engineer will implement automation test scripts. Integration with the test management tool is also, planned.
  • The Lead QA Automation Engineer must be able to take on leadership responsibilities and influence the direction of the automation effort, and its schedule and prioritization.
  • The Lead QA Automation Engineer will work with management, developers, and quality assurance personnel, to meet these goals.
  • The Lead QA Automation Engineer will also be involved in implementing/improving build test processes, environments, and scripts. These build tests ensure that the code drops to quality assurance are of the highest quality.
  • Ensure tight integration of test automation with CI/CD efforts.
  • Act as a key knowledge resource for testing automation and train and support other team members as appropriate.

Skills/Competencies: (List specific skills/specialties in order of importance)

  • 9 or more years required software development/automation experience

o Hands-on working experience any with GUI / Web Automation Testing Tool (Ranorex, QTP, and Selenium).

o Hands-on working experience of testing REST or SOAP APIs (ASP.Net, NUnit, Web API, Etc.)

o Experience creating XPath queries and functions.

o Hands-on experience with any of the following scripting languages: (C#, VB.Net, Java, HTML, and XML).

o Hands-on working experience using any of the following tools (Python, Visual Studio, Postman, Gherkins, etc.)

o Hands-on years working experience in Unit Test/Coded UI Tests/Functional Test Development.

o Experience integrating test suites into a Jenkins or TFS.

o Experience using TFS or any other source code management tools.

o Expert SQL.

o Experience with Virtual Server, Virtual Clients, and System Configuration.

o Basic working knowledge of testing fundamentals such as TDD & BDD.

  • 9 or more years required software testing experience

o Experience with QA techniques including black box, white box, and gray box approaches for smoke, regression, functional, user acceptance and exploratory testing.

o Experience with the development of use cases, test scenarios and/or test plans.

o Experience with Agile and Waterfall.

o Experience using JIRA or other bug tracking tools.

  • Required Experience

o Must be organized, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

o Leading a team of Automation Engineer.

o Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

o Demonstrate a high level of motivation, confidence, integrity, and responsibility.

o Understand technology related to the client/server and web application testing.

o Experience testing enterprise applications deployed to cloud environments such as AWS.

o Hands-on experience with one or more of the following technologies: Virtualization (e.g., VMware), containers (e.g., Docker), container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).

Education, prior work experience:

Bachelor’s degree in CS or MIS, and at least 9 years of work-related experience:

o 9 years of experience in software testing.

o 9 years of automation scripting.

Specialized License, Certifications:

  • Certified Software Test Automation Specialist (CSTAS) – (Desired)
